Always plan on what to do with your ferrets when you leave for vacation.
If you will be gone just a couple of days on a weekend trip, your ferrets
might be fine unattended. Just make sure you leave plenty of food and
fresh water for them, and keep them in a room where the temperature will stay
within a range of 60 to 75 degrees.
If you frequently make weekend trips, leaving
the ferrets alone and cooped up, get the largest cage you can so they have
room to move around and play a bit. I have a very large cage I bought
several years back when I had four ferrets. It's 4 feet long, 2 feet
deep, and 6 feet tall, with four levels and lots of toys and hammocks. I
have litter boxes on the three lower floors so they never have to travel far
to relieve themselves. It's a model called The Phantom Castle, made by
Peter Koch, www.cagesbykoch.com.
So if I'm not around to let them out to run around every day, they are not
confined to a tiny cage with no room to get exercise.
Do NOT leave your ferrets unattended for
more than two days. If you are going away for more than two days, either
take the ferrets with you, or get a pet sitter to come to your house to take
care of them, or board them in a kennel.
You can search for pet sitters in your
area at these sites:

You can also contact your local veterinarian
and see if they know of anyone local to your area. I sometimes use the vet
techs who work in my vet's office.
