Nail Trimming
Keep your ferrets nails trimmed. I do
my babies about once a month. If their nails get too long, they can get
the nails caught in wire cages or in loose threads of a cloth or towel in their
cage, increasing the chance of them ripping the nail out.
You can clip your fuzzy's nails with any nail
clipper. Just make sure that you don't clip into the quick. Cut in bright light
so you can clearly see where the quick begins - it's pinkish, indicating that's
where the blood vessels start. If you cut too close and the nail begins to
bleed, squeeze the nail with a cotton ball or tissue to promote clotting. You
can buy a product for this purpose -- it's called Kwik Stop styptic powder. You
can buy it from these online retailers or your local pet store may carry it.
